Every year, portions of new series, interesting or "rotten", profitable or failing, are thrown onto television.
Sometimes you enjoy the first season, and all subsequent ones leave the most unpleasant aftertaste.
In the case of the series listed below, there was not even a second chance. Most were closed ahead of schedule, and some even after the pilot series.
The reasons for the closure of these series could be very different: defeat by critics, cancellation of funding, low ratings, etc.
Fans are perplexed, as some of the first series came with a bang.
We present 10 series that have been “rolled back” even before reaching the big screen.
10. Day one
This series was supposed to be broadcast on the NBC channel, but never got on the air. At the beginning, the channel was so sure of the future popularity of this specific post-apocalyptic picture that it ordered 13 episodes of the first season to be shown immediately.
Manufacturers decided to turn “Day One” into a mini-series of 4 episodes, and eventually they completely stopped showing the pilot episode to the audience. It seems that the project initially went wrong, because the pilot series also did not go on the air.
9. Hieroglyph
The drama series was commissioned by Fox as an experiment. Probably, I wanted to be a pioneer in the subjects of Ancient Egypt, which was always interesting for a certain category of population.
Fox ordered the entire first season of the upcoming historical series, but it was never aired due to technical problems between the channel’s managers, authors and investors of the project.
8. Five reasons to say “No” (one episode on a television screen)
In the case of this series, an exception - a whole series pleased the audience. ABC channel relied on actress Heather Graham, believing in her popularity with the viewer, so he ordered the show for the entire first season at the script stage.
In addition, the channel itself invested heavily in advertising the project - investments amounted to $ 1 million. Critics also smashed the first episode to smithereens, so the channel promptly removed the series from the show.
The main character, whom the channel prophesied extraordinary success, caused the viewer antipathy and his character, and acting.
7. Flight control
And again, the NBC channel got it wrong with investments, betting on the space-themed adventure series Flight Management.
The comedy setting took the viewer to the sixties, where you could watch Jessica Jones. Unfortunately, the series did not get on the air, but this did not stop actress Kristen Ritter, and she went to pursue a career in the television world of Marvel.
6. Made in Jersey (two episodes on a television screen)
In our review, this series can be called the “record holder" - as many as 2 episodes on television. Charming Janet Montgomery, known for her work “This is Us” and “Salem”, was also supposed to start in the series “Made in Jersey”.
There, the actress should appear as a resident of New Jersey with a characteristic accent. Surprisingly, Janet did not cope with her character, and in general, critics did not appreciate the legal drama, calling it mediocre after only two episodes on the air.
5. Coach
The NBC channel, it seems, is not very versed in breakthrough series, buying up the rights to display everything in a row. Once again, the channel’s management was delighted with the pilot series and, without teaching anything, ordered the entire season (thirteen episodes).
The work is actually a continuation of the series "Coach", released in the 90s with the famous actor Craig T. Nelson. And again those same mysterious “creative” disagreements arose between the project owners and the channel’s management. As a result, the expected continuation did not please the audience at the screens.
4. Viva Laughlin (two episodes on a television screen)
The musical drama shows the viewer a story that revolves around the specifics of work in a casino. In the episodes you can see famous stars such as Griffith and Jackman. But even the star cast did not save the series from failure - critics expressed their classic "fi" to the work of producers and screenwriters.
The series was so spread that the popular American media even dared to call it one of the worst in the history of television. As a result, Viva Laughlin was taken off the air after 2 episodes.
3. Computer scientists
Classics of the genre - NBC again made a mistake with the choice of the series for launching. This time they were considering a classic American series, which borrowed the project and the idea from their British "brother."
And if such a maneuver happened with the Shameless, and the analogue fired, then in the case of the Computer, it was not so. A remake inspired by the British version failed before it went on air. And NBC again lost its money by purchasing rights for the entire first season.
Surprisingly, this time the idea just did not like the channel’s management, member of the board of directors Ben Silverman. He was so disappointed with the work that he gave up.
2. We and they
Fox Channel executives made a big mistake by betting on a specific remake of Gavin and Stacy. The first 7 episodes starred Ritter and Bledel, which, it would seem, was supposed to foster public interest.
The story tells of a young couple whose happiness, according to the classics of the genre, is prevented by relatives. As a result, not one of the shot episodes broke into the big world of television.
1. Manchester training
Did you know that the popular drama "Cruel Intentions" had a sequel? In addition, this idea was to be implemented in the multi-part format “Manchester Training”. At the same time, the main character at that time was to play young Amy Adams.
As a result, the actress still played her character in a full-length film, which, however, was not shown in movie theaters, but was immediately released on videotapes.
The viewer does not know through what thorns of disagreement, the opinions of critics and budget issues the series sometimes makes its way to them. How many good stories fell in the form of piles of unfinished scripts ...
And how many royalties were not paid to the actors who already mentally disposed of the “Golden Mountains”.
In any case, it may be good that there is a primary selection, and the more or less “filtered” product comes to our screens.
